Welcome to the board, Jaime.
I'm in northern Schoharie County, NY. Probably about 2 hours east of you.
In your area of NY, pre-1783, the only folks really living out there were the Iroquois. after that, you have a gradual influx of white settlement.
There were no longhunters in NY State. That is a profession of folks much farther south.
You have a really big range that your asking about, easiest way would be to narrow it down to say, a 10 year period, and work from there. There's quite a bit of RevWar stuff going on in NY and some F&I War as well.
Right now I do French Marine for F&I and for RevWar a member of Brant's Volunteers and Mohawk warrior.

The best thing is to try to fit your persona in with the events in your area if you want to enjoy participating in events. If you're on your own hook and might travel farther, etc, then it's more wide open.
