Does anyone have any pointers on research for Virginia Rifles? Specifically 1760-1785 in the Winchester area? I see a lot of similar characteristics on kits and just want to back them up with a solid examlpe. (Wooden patchbox or no, nose cap or schnabbel, English, Dutch, or German lock, and so forth) Ive seen two books from Track's any other places I can look? Thanks for the help!
Yours aye,
Edw. Drayke

Eric Kettenberg has a long article about the migration down the valley by the Moravians on his sight. John Bivins book NC longrifles also has a couple I think. Check out Geo Shumways sight for his book listings

During the time when my grandfather was the Master of the Colonial Williamsburg Gunsmith Shop he made longrifles that represented those from towns many miles to the west and north—along the Great Wagon Road. When called on to produce something that might have been made in Tidewater Virginia he drew on details from English rifles or work believed to be from near Fredericksburg at the fall line of the Rappahannock River.
