|If you collect antique guns or repair them, then you know how greasy they can be. Hardened gunk can freeze locks, triggers, spring, etc. Makes them unmoveable at best. I soak all such parts in GUM OUT carburetor cleaner. Yes, I know it's not authentic, but it WORKS.
Spray a good coat of foam on the parts and LEAVE IT ALONE for a couple of days. Wash off with clear water.
I have yet to see any etching of metal and it doesn't hurt any patina to speak of. This might work on antique traps as well, but I haven't tried it.
