|This is something I learned many years ago. A few days before you leave for a weekend event, soak and partially cook enough dried beans or peas to last for for several feedings. No salt, meat or otherwise. (That comes later) Now, when they are about half cooked, drain and let them cool. Spread out over a clean sheet of paper and let them dry and shrivel up.
Ugly lookin' critters aint they ? Put them in a sack and tote with you to the event. They'll cook in half the time, and you can still add spices, meat or whatever. If you are at a week long event (or longer) you can do this in camp. Or, if you are feeling festive, just bury the bean pot in ashes and let them cook overnight. I'll leave the fart jokes to the next guy!!!!!!!!
