|Water is always an issue with trekkers. You have to carry a canteen or some kind of purifying unit with on most hikes. Even up north here where we still have a lot of clean water, it isn't good to drink from streams or rivers as beaver and deer droppings introduce giardia into the water. When I would hike with my grandfather, at a young age, he always knew where all the springs were, and he knew how to make a seep into a good watering hole. When he found a good seep, usually coming off or out of a hill side, he would dig it out and line the hole with rock, ash splits, or an old wood keg. Leaving the water to settle we would usually be treated to a cold, cold, really good drink on our way back out.
