|A couple more survival foods are: Inner bark of red pine, edible and less like turpentine than you would think, but not likely to become part of your regular diet.
Spruce tea: A must for long term survival - staves off scurvy. My recipe is spruce, pine, cedar, balsam fir branches, long and thick as your little finger boiled in one gallon of water. Also, breathing the fumes after boiling (be careful not to get steam burns) will help with sinus cold.
There are many survival foods in the forest - one of the best is grubs - if you can stand the idea. They really are not too bad, rather sweet.
