|If you are ever on the trail and run across a corn field, you have several options for some tasty trail side cuisine with few or no cooking utensils. First, and most obvious, you can roast the corn or even boil it while still in its husk. To "boil" the corn you need to have a ready water supply and keep dipping the corn in the water, this will in effect steam the corn and keep it from burning.
After you have done this and done it right, the inner layers of husk should remain unscorched. Next you can use these husks in other woodsy recipes. One of my favorites is to mix up corn meal and water to a consistency of making normal corn bread cakes. Take small portions of this meal and wrap it in the corn husks (you can use small strips of husks to tie around the bundle). Next you can either boil this package or place it right in the coals, again repeatedly dipping it in water. by doing this your cornmeal will remain moist and cleaner than if placed in the coals with no husks.
One warning, learn to identify edible species of corn. Some species are grown specifically as livestock food or for such things as popcorn, both of which are not particularly palitable.
