|We've all seen the plastic shot cups used in modern shotgun shells. Here is a way to get the same effect in your fowler in a period manner. Make a paper cartridge as you normally would for blanks or live ball, but don't add powder or waddng. You'll probably need to shorten the tube somewhat. Drop in a measure of your favorite size of lead shot and carefully crimp and seal the open end. When it comes time to load, drop the cartridge down bore, seat it and prime. No need to tear open the paper and there is no need for an over shot card, UNLESS the cartridge is a really loose fit. When fired, the cartridge will burst open and keep the shot from scattering too much, just like a plastic cup.
