In cold wet regions the addition of a firewall opposite your sleeping area is a good way to reflect some of the heat from your fire back into camp. To construct one you simply stack wet wood that will not burn into a wall, about 2 or 3 feet from your fire. To help stack the wood drive wooden stakes 3 or 4 feet long into the ground on each side of your wall and on each end, however long you want that to be and fill up the space between. This also helps to turn unusable wood into usable fire wood, and you can rotate dry wood for wet wood now and then. It also gives you someplace to hang wet socks and the like.
