A good, authentic recipe for moccasin grease is 1/3 beeswax and 2/3 tallow/lard. Melt the two together until you only have liquid in your heating container, then pour it into the container you want it in or set it aside to cool if you melted it in the container. I usually melt mine in the 4" tin I keep the grease in which has been much more convenient than a separate heating container.
To use the grease, warm it up a little by a fire to soften it. Rub it into the leather thoroughly until it won't take any more. Of course, using this will not insure that you will always have dry feet, but it can be very helpful.
The mixture also might work for hand balm while trekking in cold weather, but I haven't tried it. It looks like it would.

i like the beeswax and mink oil combo it seems to work out pretty well for me. Like the idea though.

I've used mink oil. I'll have to try some other methods.
