A Brown Bess front thimble was found at McKee's town (Rev War - Shawnee - OH). One theory is that it was discarded as a result of shortening the barrel?

The following is from a 1756 Order from Sir William Johnson, apparently filled in 1757 for Gifts for the Indians. Source: Sir William Johnson Papers, Volume II page 898-899

400, Neat Fowling pieces Barrels 4 Feet Long Substantíal Stocks to have some distinguishing mark on the Barrel and Lock of each, about 2 0 / price,
400, ditto. a better kind distinguish’d as above.
200, ditto. 3 Feet Barrell for Boys. ditto. Wilson Maker
100, pcs. of middling Pistols with Ramrods
