Juniper bark, scrub oak leaves, sagebrush bark...just a few "tinders" I use here in SW Colorado....I also use abandoned bird nests....

for non-toxic shot, find some modern bismuth shotgun shells and cut them open...or look up non-toxic shot on google and you'll find a few offering there too....None of it's cheap

mow the lawn a couple of times, wear them on a few hikes...they'll "patina" nicely on their own....faked aging is just that, fake...
